I have a physical form I will send out on Monday (on another computer) that needs to be completed, printed and brought with you on Monday.
At this point I think we have Gaige and Henry who are ready for BoR. If you feel you are ready for BoR and not Gaige or Henry please let me know ASAP.
Please be ready with your Cooking Merit Badge on the 22nd as we'll.
This email is for all the Scouts working on the Cooking Merit Badge. Most of you have completed the first 4 requirements on that badge and are ready to prepare a menu and shopping list so that you can do some cooking for your family.
This is requirement #5 – You need to plan a menu for three (3) full days of meals. (three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners plus one dessert) Your menu should include enough to feed yourself and at least one adult. To make it easier just plan your menus for your family. In your worksheets there are outlines for each day and each meal which include your menu, the quantity of food, the equipment you will need to cook with and the utensils you will be using. These outlines need to be completed for each meal for the three days.
Once you have completed your menus then you will need to create a shopping list for each of your meals. Again, there is an outline to follow in your worksheets. Please follow these outlines to make it easier for me to review and check over your work.
Before you do any cooking your menus and shopping lists need to be checked off by me to make sure you have planned nutritious meals.
5. Using the MyPlate food guide or the current USDA nutrition model, plan a menu for three full days of meals (three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners) plus one dessert. Your menu should include enough to feed yourself and at least one adult, keeping in mind any special needs (such as food allergies) of those to be served. List the equipment and utensils needed to prepare and serve these meals. Then do the following:a. Create a shopping list for your meals showing the amount of food needed to prepare and serve each meal, and the cost for each meal.b. Share and discuss your meal plan and shopping list with your counselor.c. Using at least five of the seven cooking methods from requirement 4, prepare and serve yourself and at least one adult (parent, family member, guardian, or other responsible adult) one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner, and one dessert from the meals you planned.*d. Time your cooking to have each meal ready to serve at the proper time. Have an adult verify the preparation of the meal to your counselor.e. After each meal, ask a person you served to evaluate the meal on presentation and taste, then evaluate your own meal. Discuss what you learned with your counselor, including any adjustments that could have improved or enhanced your meals. Tell how better planning and preparation help ensure a successful meal.f. Explain how you kept perishable foods safe and free from cross-contamination.
